I WAS A QUIET, STUDIOUS ARTSY GOTH STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL. I THOUGHT I WANTED A PARTNER WHO WAS JUST LIKE ME. I CRAVED A PARTNER WHO COULD ANSWER BACK MY OBSESSION WITH THE DARKNESS OF THE WORLD. I SPIED ON THIS PETITE GOTH BOY AT SCHOOL, MARVELING AT HIS MAGNETISM. I HAD LOW SELF ESTEEM AND WOULD DO ANYTHING TO PLEASE A GORGEOUS BOY. THIS WAS PRECISELY THE BEST SCENARIO FOR A VAMPIRE TO FEED. NOW, BEFORE I LOSE YOU IN WHAT EITHER READS AS HEAVY SYMBOLISM OR JUST A WOMAN’S ACCOUNT OF A DESCENT INTO MADNESS, LET ME WARN YOU, IT IS. I BELIEVE IN VAMPIRES, SURE. I BELIEVE IN PEOPLE STEALING ENERGY. NOT QUITE THE IMAGE OF THE BLACK CLAD ARISTOCRAT WITH A CAPE. MORE LIKE A BLACK CLAD BOY WITH AN AFFINITY FOR THE OCCULT AND ALL THINGS THAT ARE AND WERE INCREDIBLY STEREOTYPICAL GOTHIC, WHO WAS DANGEROUSLY MANIPULATIVE AND WILLFULLY SEDUCTIVE. I TRACED THE MYSTERIOUS BOY ONLINE AND ADDED HIM ON A SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE. HE ACCEPTED AND WE BEGAN TO TALK. LOOKING BACK, THERE WERE A LOT OF GLARING-BRIGHT-RED-FLASHING-WARNING-SIGNS BUT I DIDN’T CARE. I HAD VERY LITTLE FREEDOM AT HOME AND HE SHOWED SYMPATHY FOR MY REBELLIOUS SENTIMENTS. AS WITH ANY VAMPIRE HE PULLED ME IN THROUGH PURE CHARM.OUR FIRST DATE WAS IN A BOOKSTORE. I LOVED BOOKS AND HE WAS VERY SMART, IT SEEMED LIKE A PERFECT MOOD. HE EVEN FOUND ME EVEN THOUGH I HAD NOT DISCLOSED WHAT PART OF THE BOOKSTORE TO MEET ME IN. HE SHARED IN MY DISDAIN FOR CURRENT SOCIETY, WE SMOKED CIGARETTES AND TALKED FOR HOURS.
